eSUN ePA-12 Carbon Fiber reinforced filament

We’re proud to be the first to introduce Esun’s latest Nylon 12 grade Carbon Reinforced filament in New Zealand.

Esun ePA12+CF builds on esun’s ePA12 formula by offering reduced moisture absorption, lower warping, greater stiffness, & improved layer adhesion.
This improved printability on a larger range of 3d printers & allows larger Nylon 12 objects to be printed than earlier.

Most other filaments are Nylon PA6. Our Nylon PA12 opens up possibilities that PA6 might not be capable enough to handle.

Nylon PA12 far less moisture absorption making PA12 CF more suited to use in close aqueous or wet conditions even in contact with water. PA6 can get soft if it left in water for very long.
Nylon 12 also handles much hotter temperatures, is much stiffer than Nylon 6, & even stronger – better than Nylon 6/6 as well.

Nylon 12 also has excellent anti static properties.
It is also UL94 V2 Flame Retardant for a continuous running temp of 120C making it perfect for electronics housings.

Please be aware that Carbon Fiber however is slightly conductive, so if you need insulative properties, then the Glass Fiber Reinforced Nylon Filament will be a better choice.

This is a 1Kg reel of 1.75mm filament. Carbon Fiber filament is matte Black in colour.

Description

PA12 is widely used in a variety of industries due to its excellent chemical resistance, high temperature performance, low moisture absorption, and higher rigidity compared to common Nylon 6 blended materials.
Esun’s ePA12CF formulation ensures very low shrinkage in the printed part resulting in excellent dimensional stability.
Our PA12 is an excellent choice for functional parts, small batch production of end use customer facing parts, tools, fixtures, and jigs.

Carbon Fiber reinforced Nylon 12 Specs:

  • High thermal properties: 160°C HDT
  • Excellent strength and stiffness over a wide temperature range – up to 160°C
  • Very low moisture absorption yielding improved retention of mechanical properties when exposed to humid environments
  • Outstanding chemical resistance
  • Low shrink / warp = excellent dimensional stability
  • Low density is ideal for light-weight parts – 1.24g/cc

Recommended 3D Printing settings:

  • Extruder:  260-300°C, potentially higher depending on printer, full metal hotends recommended, avoid teflon lined heat brakes.
  • Bed Temp:  90-120°C heated bed.
  • Chamber Heater: Best to use Active heated chamber of 45C. If not heated, at least an enclosed chamber is recommended. Small parts may be ok on open frame machines but not ideal.
  • Bed Prep:  Glue will be needed. Take care if printing directly on ceramic. Suggest using a PEI sheet or builtac topper with glue on it.
  • Hardened Nozzle recommended: 0.4mm minimum diameter, 0.6mm or larger recommended.
  • Layer Height:  Ideal layer height is 60% of nozzle diameter.  Not recommended to print layers below 0.2mm with 0.4mm nozzle, or below 0.15mm using 0.6mm nozzles, otherwise the carbon fibers may clog the nozzle crucible, & create a lot of back pressure in the hot end and, which could cause feeding issues, under extrusion, jams, drive gear clicking, or biting off a notch from the filament.
  • Moisture & Filament Storage:  PA12 absorbs less moisture than standard PA6 based materials (PA6, PA6/66, PA6/69), but it still absorbs moisture and must be dried before printing.  Keep in sealed container or back in the plastic bag between uses. Dry at 60c for 4-6 hours if filament does becomes exposed to moisture.
